As 2016’s Miss North Dakota, Macy Christianson has used her platform to speak on the danger and prevention of drunk driving.

In her recent address to the state Senate, however, she chose to also comment on the issue of abortion.

She spoke confidently, saying, “One aspect that I love in particular about being a title holder is that I represent such an amazing organization, yet I’m still an individual that can stand for things that I’m passionate about and that matter to me.”

“I have immense respect for our state for having taken a stand for what I believe is right in regards to abortion. I have had people tell me that North Dakota is against women and our rights. And I have to disagree, because not only do we support our women but we support the women that are unborn and can’t speak for themselves.”

Christianson’s stance on abortion supports the narrative that pro-life is pro-women. Abortion does not only harm the women receiving them, but it has also silenced millions of girls and boys who were not given the chance to one day become women and men.

She ends her comment on abortion by saying, “Just the fact that I can stand here and have a voice, makes me incredibly grateful.”

In a culture where celebrities are promoting Planned Parenthood left and right, we are thankful for those who will proudly use their platforms to promote the cause that supports women and their children.

While Christianson’s platform is more obvious, we believe that everyone can use their different forms of influence to share a life-affirming message – whether that’s through relationships, social media, or a special hobby or skill.

No matter what stage of life you are in or how many followers you have on Instagram, you can be part of the important work of empowering women and saving lives.
