President Trump’s Latest Signature and What it Means for the Pro-life Movement

Two weeks ago, the U.S. Senate passed H.J.Res. 43 to undo a regulation enacted under the Obama Administration that required states to fund abortion providers, such as Planned Parenthood, through Title X, a family planning funding stream.

Today, President Donald Trump signed this bill into law. 

Speaker Paul Ryan responded by saying,

“This is a major pro-life victory. Today, another Congressional Review Act bill undoing harmful Obama regulations becomes law. H.J. Res 43 voids a regulation that forces states to use Title X money to fund Planned Parenthood. Taxpayers should not be forced to fund abortion, plain and simple. We remain united and steadfast in our commitment to life and religious liberty.”

As a community that values life, this news is cause for celebration.

This bill will enable states to put funds where taxpayers want them to go. We foresee that many states will choose to reallocate those funds to organizations, like community health centers, that are committed to providing the quality health care that women deserve. 

Furthermore, we hope that society at large will begin to see that Planned Parenthood is not the answer and that real solutions exist.
