Dear Nicki Minaj — Here’s Why Your Abortion Story Left Me Sitting at My Desk With Tears in My Eyes

Dear Nicki,

I know you don’t know me. There’s actually no possible way you know who I am. Regardless, if someone, even a stranger, had something ground-breaking to tell you, wouldn’t you want to hear it?

I’m about to tell you something you don’t realize. But in order to talk to you now, I need to go back to 2014. I want to remind you of a few things you said.

In your 2014 album you spoke about the child you chose to abort saying, “My child with Aaron, would’ve been sixteen, any minute.”

In the same year, in an in-depth interview with Rolling Stone you say,“It’d be contradictory if I said I wasn’t pro-choice. I wasn’t ready. I didn’t have anything to offer a child.”

But the next part is what really gets me. Your words are vulnerable, heart-breaking, and left me sitting at my desk with tears in my eyes. Here’s what you said:

I thought I was going to die. . . It was the hardest thing I have ever gone through. . . It has haunted me all my life.”

Your words jumped off my computer screen. Your words might be from three years ago and yet, they are more powerful than you know. They are the exact words every woman considering an abortion needs to hear. Because… can I be frank with you?

A decision that empowers you shouldn’t leave you haunted for the rest of your life.

I don’t say this to point out your inconsistent logic or poke fun at your pain. I say this for the pregnant woman who woke up today and thinks her only option is abortion. I say this for the woman who’s been told she has to choose between her child and her dreams. I say this to invite you into a movement that gives women a real choice.

See, your experience is far too common today.

Statistically, 79% of post-abortive women said they did not receive counseling on their other options and a shocking 64% of post-abortive women said they felt pressured by others to abort (Medical Science Monitor, 2004).

The thing is, these women aren’t just statistics. You aren’t just a statistic. Your life has value and your experience with abortion sounds far too similar to the thousands of stories we’ve heard from post-abortive women. So, I know this is crazy, but would you do me a favor?

Reconsider your position on life and join a movement full of over 13,000 Federally Qualified Health Centers in the U.S, where women are loved and provided for. Join a community full of people passionate about educating women on ALL their options, one that reaches vulnerable women with the resources they need to make a life-affirming decision. A movement full of love. One that embraces women in their most vulnerable moments, regardless of their decision.

Pro-life is pro-woman. And your story – whether you know it or not, is one that affirms the value of life and could be used to reach women in desperate situations.

Sincerely,
A pro-woman woman

DEAR READER

We hope this article enlightened and inspired you to stand up for life.

Despite the overturning of Roe v. Wade, abortions are still prevalent in our nation. As a response to the overturning, the media: from the news to entertainment sources to even political figures and celebrities, have pushed abortion as an ongoing agenda, shaping the way this generation thinks and acts. Misinformation is being spread every day, and people are sadly believing the lies.

Our articles and stories aim to tell one thing: the truth.

We know that it is both a blessing and a challenge to understand the reality of abortion, because knowledge incites belief, and belief incites action. But we’re in this together. We believe that we can make abortion unthinkable.

With your support, we look forward to a future where young women are empowered to fight for their own rights: a right to bring life into the world, to be fearless leaders, to be examples of hope, strength, and undeterred resilience. We look forward to a future where life can happen.

If this article strengthened your belief to reach women everywhere with the truth and to let life happen, then please consider helping us extend our reach by making a gift right now. Your gift of just $10 or $20 helps our mission to create a story of hope and empowerment for every woman facing an unplanned pregnancy.

We aim to create a culture that views “pro-life” as equivalent to having empathy and compassion, providing holistic care (before and beyond pregnancy) and education, and most importantly, choosing to speak and act in love. We are pro-life, pro-love, pro-woman, pro-solution.

Don’t just be part of the movement, be part of the solution, and give today.
