San Francisco 49er Marquis Goodwin shared this beautiful and heartbreaking photo this past weekend. His post on Instagram shares that his son, who was born prematurely, tragically passed away.

He shared, “I just wanna thank those who’ve genuinely prayed for @morganakamomo & myself through out this pregnancy. Unfortunately we lost our baby boy due to some complications, and had to prematurely deliver him early this morning around 4am.”

He went on to ask for prayer and praise God for blessing him with a strong wife—“Although we are hurt, I am grateful for the experience and grateful that God blessed me with a wife as courageous and resilient as Morgan. The pain (physically, mentally, & emotionally) that she has endured is unbelievable. Please Pray for the Goodwin family.”

Despite this tragic loss, Goodwin chose to play in the game against the New York Giants Sunday afternoon. He scored a touchdown and it was their first win of the season. After scoring, Goodwin took a knee for his precious son.

His wife shared on Facebook Sunday night, saying, “Despite our loss, my hubby kept grinding, scored his son a touchdown & got our first “W” of the season. He had a wonderful game today.”

She continued, “This was truly and an amazing experience and it was also a tragic experience. But that’s okay because we won’t stop fighting and we won’t give up on what God has in store for us. It’s just important for us to remember that things happen for a reason, even though we may question ourselves “why us.””

We are thankful the Goodwins would take the time to bravely and publicly share the loss of their son. Their photos and story once again reveal the beauty and humanity of the life in the womb, which our culture so often tries to deny.

Save the Storks
Save the Storks
Save the Storks exists to partner with pregnancy resource centers and give abortion-vulnerable women a choice that will change their lives forever. We partner with pregnancy resource centers all over the nation, providing them with powerful tools and training to more effectively connect with those women in their communities. With the support of people like you, we have built over 50 Stork Buses that reach women near abortion clinics, on college campuses, in rural areas and inner cities. And here’s a statistic you’ll want to share with friends and family: four out of five women who board a Stork Bus, see their baby on the ultrasound and hear the heartbeat, choose life.
