I was 14 years old when I found out I was pregnant.
Her father and I were no longer together, and I was being heavily pressured by my family to get an abortion. All my life, I’ve always recognized that when a woman was pregnant, what was growing inside of her was an actual baby full of life and worth protecting.
It wasn’t any different in my case either.
I decided to keep and raise my child, even if I was on my own. Her father and I tried to work things out but he thought drugs were more important.
He was jailed shortly after her birth and we moved out of state to live with my dad’s side of the family. Thankfully my grandmother took us in so I could focus on and finish school.
I’m still in school, going towards my nursing degree and my little girl is turning 8 years old next month. She is nothing short of a complete blessing to every single person she encounters.
My life was dull and meaningless before her, and even though I was young and had no idea what I was doing (and I still don’t) I never saw her as a burden on my life but rather an inspiration and motivation.
I want people to know that having a child doesn’t limit you whatsoever. Rather, it improves you.
Don’t be discouraged or believe the lie that your life is now ending. For me and many others, my life didn’t start until I had my daughter. Thanks for taking the time to read my story. I sincerely hope it makes an impact.
