An idea fused with passion and empowered by God. This is how Save the Storks began and grew. In 2010, Joe Baker first imagined launching buses equipped with free sonogram machines. His intention was to have a bus in every major city, providing care and resources for the 64% of women who said they felt pressured into having abortions.

“Save the Storks” represents our desire to care for the mothers who carry their precious little bundles. Abortion tends to result from deeper pain, trauma, and fear that the mother feels when she finds she is pregnant. We want to meet her at the point of decision with love and compassion to help her recognize her value as a person. She is not alone. She is loved.  Pregnancy resources are available in every state for free and we want her to be informed of the many people and organizations desiring to help her through all the uncertainties she may feel and face.

Eight years ago it was all a dream, now it’s a reality. In August, we went back to the Bronx of New York City where Joe first had the idea of building a Stork Bus.

“When I first was here I had the unstoppable passion for this idea. Even though my dream seemed unreasonable to many, I believed I would achieve it. I am as amazed as everyone else that my dream actually has come true. My dream to launch buses all across the nation happened through the the hand of God. The Lord used generous people to make this happen. I still have been absolutely amazed at God’s work along the way.” – Joe Baker

Our affiliates from Alight Care Center in Troy, NY used their Stork Bus to park outside two abortion clinics over our two day trip. They graciously invited women into the bus for free ultrasounds. Those who chose to board the bus were awed by the comfortable, professional and beautiful interior. The women received free options counseling, including facts on abortion, pregnancy tests and ultrasounds.

Have you ever seen someone’s eyes change from sorrow to joy? We saw this happen to women when they stepped off the Stork Bus. Women who approached the abortion clinics with heavy, downcast eyes boarded the Stork Bus, met their baby on a huge flat-screen TV and left the bus smiling through tears, holding the ultrasound photo of their little one in their hands.

Today we’re building our 45th Stork Bus. We have Mobile Affiliates operating in 27 states across the nation taking pregnancy resources right to the women who need them most.

Together we are empowering women in their choice to showcase their strength, determination and power by saying yes to the life inside despite the uncertainties, fear or concerns around them. They are not alone. We are pro-women. We are pro-life. And our Affiliates give women the empowerment to choose life knowing they have a huge network of people to support them throughout the journey ahead.
