Save the Storks’ Nikki Chamblee donates portion of her liver to baby once marked for abortion — a living testament to God’s providence and the sanctity of life
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Save the Storks today released a powerful new video, “A Match Made in Heaven: Nikki and Penny’s Story of Life and Hope,” telling the extraordinary real-life story of how one woman’s faith and courage gave a child a second chance at life — both before and after birth.
The video follows the remarkable journey of Nikki Chamblee, Director of Women’s Health and Mobile Partnerships at Save the Storks, whose own life was once threatened in the womb when doctors advised her mother to abort due to an unsafe pregnancy. Years later, after battling multiple brain tumors, she became a living example of hope and faith — donating a portion of her liver to save a baby girl, Penny, whose parents had been told by doctors the very same thing Nikki’s mother once heard: that their pregnancy was too risky to continue.
“Both Penny and I were counted out by doctors before we even had a chance to live,” said Nikki. “Yet here we are — two lives once dismissed as hopeless — showing that circumstances do not determine outcomes. Life is always worth the risk.”
The emotional, faith-centered video — available here — has already touched viewers with its intertwined themes of hope, divine orchestration, and selfless love. A one-minute version of the story is also available here.
A story rooted in faith and healing
Nikki underwent major surgery on September 3, 2025, to donate more than 20 percent of her liver to Penny. In an update written shortly afterward, she said her operation went smoothly, with a brief hospital stay and steady recovery. Penny’s surgery was more complex, requiring several procedures — but the transplanted liver began functioning immediately. Both donor and recipient are now healing well.
“My recovery has been going well,” Nikki said in her update. “Penny had a tougher time, but doctors are very happy with her progress. God is good — she’s moving forward, and so am I.”
Nikki described the moment she left the hospital and rang the donor’s bell as deeply moving and spiritually transformative.
“As I read the words on the donor plaque, I was overcome with emotion and joy,” she said. “It’s an honor and privilege to be able to offer part of myself so someone else’s life can thrive. Every day I get to work in a ministry that helps let life happen. What God has called us to is no small task — it leads to great impact.”
Nikki says her experience has given her a renewed understanding of Save the Storks’ mission.
“We stand to help life thrive not just in the womb, but all the way through to the end,” she explained in the video.
Her selfless act embodies the message that Save the Storks champions daily: that every life has purpose, and that love — grounded in faith — can overcome even the most daunting medical predictions.
“When you see this story, you realize that pro-life means pro-love,” Nikki said. “It’s about showing up for people at every stage of life, with compassion, courage and conviction that God is still in the business of miracles.”
The ministry hopes Nikki’s story will inspire others to reflect on what it means to value life wholly —spiritually, emotionally and physically.
“God’s pathway to healing is through the prayers of His people,” Nikki shared. “Life is truly a gift, and I’m honored to play even a small part in helping another life flourish.”
Save the Storks’ mission is to create a story of hope and empowerment for every woman facing an unplanned pregnancy. This national organization that started in 2012 focuses on four key areas of impact: Elevating women’s healthcare through strategic partnerships with pregnancy centers; Mobile Medical Clinics that bring women’s healthcare directly to where it is most needed; Church and Community partnerships; and the Digital Platform for women, offering 24/7 access with real care and real options.
