As Abortion Law Misinformation Looms, Save the Storks Sets the Facts Straight

ProPublica’s latest story is laden with misinformation. In it, they claim that Josseli Barnica died due to delayed miscarriage treatment as a result of the Texas abortion ban.

The loss of Josseli Barnica, a woman who loved her family and was thrilled to bring another life into this world, is tragic. Medical malpractice, not abortion laws, is the reason Ms. Barnica is not with us today.

Dr. Karysse Hutson, Board Certified OB/GYN & National Medical Director at Save the Storks, had this to say in response to ProPublica’s story:

“Today’s misleading media article regarding the death of Texas mom, Josseli Barnica, is an atrocious example of the left using a tragic death that occurred three years ago to say now that abortion restrictions caused her death. This is simply not true.

I want to set the record straight on women’s healthcare. Every doctor in America can provide maternal life-saving care in all pregnancy situations, regardless of whether the cause of the complication is related to miscarriage, abortion, or ectopic pregnancy.

Doctors take a Hippocratic oath to care for their patients. That means if a mother’s life is in danger because of their pregnancy, she can receive medical care in every state, even if it means a separation of the pregnancy must occur to save the life of the mother.

The left is twisting media to make it seem like women don’t receive the care they should because of states that have abortion restriction laws. A doctor did not take proper care of Josseli Barnica – that medical malpractice is what caused her death, not abortion restriction laws.”

“The tragic story of Josseli Barnica is being exploited and twisted. To honor Joselli’s story, the truth must be told. Her heartbreaking death was the result of inadequate care and medical complications following a miscarriage over three years ago. It had nothing to do with abortion restrictions.” @diane.ferraro

DEAR READER

We hope this article enlightened and inspired you to stand up for life.

Despite the overturning of Roe v. Wade, abortions are still prevalent in our nation. As a response to the overturning, the media: from the news to entertainment sources to even political figures and celebrities, have pushed abortion as an ongoing agenda, shaping the way this generation thinks and acts. Misinformation is being spread every day, and people are sadly believing the lies.

Our articles and stories aim to tell one thing: the truth.

We know that it is both a blessing and a challenge to understand the reality of abortion, because knowledge incites belief, and belief incites action. But we’re in this together. We believe that we can make abortion unthinkable.

With your support, we look forward to a future where young women are empowered to fight for their own rights: a right to bring life into the world, to be fearless leaders, to be examples of hope, strength, and undeterred resilience. We look forward to a future where life can happen.

If this article strengthened your belief to reach women everywhere with the truth and to let life happen, then please consider helping us extend our reach by making a gift right now. Your gift of just $10 or $20 helps our mission to create a story of hope and empowerment for every woman facing an unplanned pregnancy.

We aim to create a culture that views “pro-life” as equivalent to having empathy and compassion, providing holistic care (before and beyond pregnancy) and education, and most importantly, choosing to speak and act in love. We are pro-life, pro-love, pro-woman, pro-solution.

Don’t just be part of the movement, be part of the solution, and give today.
