When you think of a superhero, you might imagine Superman, Batman, or even one of the many Avengers movies. You might think of someone in a cape flying around and saving lives, but the truth is, one of the most overlooked superheroes in our lives are moms. While all moms are superheroes, there’s something incredibly special about the superhero moms who adopt or choose to place their baby for adoption.
For Ahna, her mom is a superhero who changed her life and her whole family for the better.
Ahna’s Superhero Mom
A superhero proves their character through their actions. For having courage, bravery, and making selfless decisions to save the people they love. So, it’s not a far reach to call your mom a superhero. This is how Ahna sees her mother, Chelsea Noble.
“My mom is my superhero. Every single person in my family would say that my mom is their superhero, because she has worked so hard and sacrificed every cell in her body for the entire duration of all our lives to be a selfless mom who didn’t treat us any differently, ” says Ahna.
Ahna’s gratitude doesn’t stop with the woman who raised her — it stretches back to another brave mom: the one who chose life for her mom. That woman had no idea she was giving life to the future superhero Ahna would one day call “Mom.” Because Ahna’s adopted mom? She was adopted, too.
The Choice That Built a Family
In the 1960s, when adoption carried heavy stigma, Ahna’s mom, Chelsea Noble, was placed into a loving Italian family in New York. Her birth mom’s brave decision set off a chain reaction. Years later, that little girl would grow up, get married, and adopt four children of her own—including Ahna.
“She chose life for my mom, and then my mom ended up meeting my dad. And they decided, you know what? Let’s adopt. And then they adopted four other people whom other moms had given life to. Because of one woman, there were six more kids, ” Ahna adds.

Ahna’s family is comprised of four adopted children and two biological children, but it’s a family filled with so much belonging that they often forget they’re adopted.
“It’s strange. We oftentimes forget that we are adopted. And we’re black,” Ahna added with a laugh, “So it’s kind of like, how do you forget? But it’s because she set the tone that we’re all adopted by God first.”
How One Brave Choice Shapes Generations
In most superhero stories, the stakes are high. The hero is faced with a decision that could save lives, shift the future, or ripple through generations. What many people don’t realize is that birth moms and adoptive moms carry that same power. One brave choice—to choose life, to choose adoption—can create a legacy of love that stretches far beyond one moment.

Ahna’s story is proof of this ripple effect. Her adoptive mom has a unique story because she was adopted decades earlier. That shared experience bonded her to her children in a powerful way, shaping how she parented with empathy, honesty, and strength. Ahna’s gratitude stretches to her siblings’ birth moms as well. Without the choices these women made for their lives, she wouldn’t have the family she cherishes today.

One brave decision, a whole legacy transformed. Ahna’s family was born out of the courage of women who may never know the impact they made, but changed the world just the same. What’s more heroic than that?
The Power of Her Choice…
Ahna’s adoption was closed, so she hasn’t had the chance to thank her mom personally, but she cannot express how thankful she is for her sacrifice.
“Thank you is the smallest form of gratitude. Those words hold weight with me. You have no idea what you could do with just that one sacrifice,” says Ahna to her birth mother and other birth mothers out there. “Thank you for choosing to give your twenty-four-seven love and care for nine months to an unknown person and then giving them their life,” she adds.
This reality isn’t missed by Ahna, as a new mom herself, she sees the incredible sacrifice her birth mother gave her, and the life that she’s had because of it.

“My birth mother gave me my entire life. I have a husband now. I have a child now. She gave me my life,” Ahna recounts.
Ahna’s Message to Other Superhero Moms
A superhero is proud of their family. Ahna’s mom was always open about the adoption conversation, involving each kid and sharing a special connection with them since she was also adopted. Ahna suggests that other adoptive parents do the same.
“I would encourage that person to have an open conversation early. If you’re going to adopt, don’t hesitate to talk about it, keeping it out in the open. Because that is one of the biggest gifts my parents gave me,” says Ahna.
Her message to future moms considering adoption is simple: You can do this.
“You can do this. You are fully equipped with everything you need to do it. God will get you through. There’s going to be challenging days of wondering, but put your trust in the Lord, and he will protect you and protect your future child, ” Ahna adds.
You Are a Superhero
We want all moms to know they are real superheroes. Having a child, choosing to place your baby in a forever home, and choosing to adopt all takes incredible courage. But like all superheroes, it’s this one brave choice that can change an entire generation, build a legacy, and create a family.
As Ahna reflects on the birth mothers whose choices helped shape her family, she says, “They had no idea the dramatic effect their sacrifice would have.”

So to every mom — birth mom, adoptive mom, or someone considering either path — know this:
You are a real superhero.
