With President Biden stepping down and endorsing Kamala Harris, she is poised to become the Democratic Party’s nominee for President. This raises important questions about the future of abortion rights under her potential leadership. While Harris has often avoided detailing her stance on specific abortion limits, her record reveals clear support for unrestricted abortion access. It is likely that if Vice President Harris receives the Democratic Party’s nomination, she will make abortion one of her main platform issues.
Kamala’s Abortion Extremism
Although some may think Kamala Harris and President Biden share the same stance on abortion rights, Harris has undeniably been more active in this arena. For instance, in March 2024, Harris became the first Vice President to visit a Planned Parenthood facility.
As a Senator, Harris supported the “Women’s Health Protection Act,” a bill considered to be one of the most extreme pro-abortion measures ever introduced in the U.S. Senate. This act aimed to establish the right to abortion up until birth for nearly any reason, potentially nullifying many important state-level pro-life laws.
Additionally, Kamala Harris played a key role in prosecuting the journalist who attempted to expose Planned Parenthood for allegedly selling fetal body parts. Kamala voted against the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act,” which planned to stop painful late-term abortion and fought against the “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act,” which aimed to protect all babies that survived abortions.
Save the Storks Responds
With Vice President Kamala Harris securing enough pledged delegates for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States and her first campaign rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Diane Ferraro, CEO of Save the Storks, shared her perspective on the implications of Harris’ potential presidency, particularly concerning abortion rights and maternal health:
“Based on her public stance on abortion rights, it is likely that if Vice President Harris receives the Democratic Party’s nomination, she will make abortion one of her main platform issues. As an adopted child, stepmother, and foster and adoptive mother, I am disappointed by Harris’ votes in the Senate against abortion restrictions. This is VP Harris’ opportunity to help expand her viewpoint on maternal health across the nation and to recognize that abortion is not women’s healthcare. Rather, there is a tremendous opportunity for VP Harris to expand awareness about adoption as a choice and to improve maternal health.
Save the Storks is doing all we can to provide care and real choices to women, but we cannot do it alone. It starts from the top. We need a leader of this nation to recognize that women need support in a variety of services to help make an informed decision, not just access to one viewpoint or one service. We believe that women deserve better than abortion. We know that many women who choose to get an abortion do so because of the current economic situation and lack of support.
I implore VP Harris to explore ways to provide more opportunities for women to become mothers, including education, career training, legal help, counseling, housing support, daycare, and more.
Every woman deserves equal access to motherhood. Let us close this gap so all women in this great country can have the option to be a mom.”
A Call to Close the Gap
As the nation anticipates the upcoming election and Kamala Harris’ potential nomination, we’re highlighting the critical discussion around abortion, maternal health, and the support systems necessary for women to make informed choices about motherhood. Save the Storks remains committed to advocating for comprehensive care and real life-affirming choices for women, hoping for leadership in our nation that aligns with these values.
