Determined to choose abortion.
Newly married and at the height of both careers, Amber and Evan never planned to have children. With travel and business aspirations, kids weren’t an option for their busy lifestyle. So, when Amber realized she was pregnant, their decision was unanimous: they would abort. Still, Amber and Evan saw the value and importance of the medical services provided by a pregnancy clinic and chose to book an appointment prior to obtaining the abortion to determine their next steps.
Kids were not a part of their plan.
On a slow Saturday in December, the pregnancy clinic received a call for a last-minute appointment.
It was clear to the staff that Amber and Evan were well-educated and elegant. Amber and Evan shared with the staff that they had only been married a little over a year, and with blooming careers, they didn’t have time for kids. In fact, they had decided before marriage that they would live their whole lives without kids, with the freedom to travel and advance their careers. They simply couldn’t see both lifestyles co-existing.
As the couple talked to the staff about this, Amber said softly, “I know how selfish this sounds, I do, but this is just always what I saw my life being.”
Learning the truth about the abortion pill.
As they moved into the education portion of the appointment, both Amber and Evan visibly softened. They knew theoretically what a chemical abortion was, but thinking about it in the context of reality changed everything. The staff shared the shocking truth about the abortion pill, how it works, and the dangerous health risks involved.
Both were surprised at what her body and the baby would go through.
It was a divine moment.
As the couple proceeded to the ultrasound, the moment of truth arrived. Amber reclined on the table while Evan waited in anticipation in the next room. Within moments, our nurse sonographer discovered the unexpected: two gestational sacs, two heartbeats, two babies. Overwhelmed, Amber couldn’t contain her tears. She whispered, “I prayed that if it were twins, I wouldn’t abort.” Twins didn’t run in either Amber or Evan’s family, so this was truly unexpected. Amber couldn’t shake the reality; this was a divine moment.
Choosing a baby and a career.
Evan came into the room, shocked at the tears, and looked up at the screen as well. He then took Amber’s hand, visibly affirming what they both knew–they were going to have twins. They quickly made an OB appointment and have continued to go to the women’s clinic for support.
This couple walked into the clinic determined to get an abortion, but when they learned the truth about the abortion pill and then saw their divine calling to parent their twins, their hearts were completely changed. We love seeing our partners and their incredible staff share the truth and give real options to couples like Amber and Evan.
