Choosing Life: Arlaina’s Story

Arlaina was separated from an on-again, off-again relationship with the father of her first child when she learned she was pregnant. The father leaned toward not keeping the baby. But in her heart, Arlaina felt differently. “I never believed in abortion because of how I was raised, but we didn’t want to feel like we had to stay together just because of a child,” she recalls. “In my heart, I knew I couldn’t go through with it, but I also feared becoming a single mom.”

Arlaina already faced the reality of being a single mom of one, but the idea of choosing life and parenting two kids—possibly alone, was daunting.

She leaned on her faith during this hard time. During her prayer time, as she cried out to God for help, the name Amelia came to mind.

She googled the meaning of the name and found that Amelia can be translated to ‘work.’ Deep down, Arlaina felt this was confirmation.

Although her baby was unplanned and may not have been ideal for her situation, the baby was the ‘work of God,’ and God would be with her during this time.

Pressure to Abort

Despite this moment with God speaking to her, Arlaina still went to the clinic in Ft. Worth that day for her abortion. The pressure to abort was weighing heavily on her, but the name she heard from God for her baby echoed in her head – Amelia. Seated in the waiting room at the abortion clinic, nervous and distracted, Arlaina looked up. What she saw was shocking.

It was a moment she’ll never forget.

“It was just me, God, and that picture.”

Hanging on the wall of the abortion clinic was a photo of Amelia Earhart. Arlaina knew this wasn’t a coincidence.

Under the photo of the Earheart, read her famous quote: ‘Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace.’

“In that moment, I felt like God was telling me, ‘If you have the courage to keep her, you will find peace.’” Arlaina added.

Filled with sudden clarity, she knew she couldn’t go through with the abortion. “I walked up to the nurses and told them, ‘I’m not doing this.’ I walked out of the clinic, and although I didn’t know the gender then, I knew God had already given me the name—Amelia.”

The Birth of Amelia

On February 21, 2021, Amelia was born—a healthy, vibrant girl with a big personality.

“When I look at her now, I couldn’t imagine life without her. I’m so thankful God got me through that time because she is here for a purpose.” This mother’s story is a testament to the power of courage and faith, even in the face of seemingly impossible decisions. Looking back at her situation, Arlaina offers advice to other women facing an unexpected pregnancy, “It may feel like you may not have an option at the time, but God is truly with you.”

Choosing Life Despite Pressure to Abort

Though Arlaina and her partner are still separated, Amelia’s father later found redemption in their daughter’s life. “When she was almost one, he became truly involved. They now have a great relationship, and I know it eats him up to think that he almost didn’t want this child—this child he’s now so in love with.”

When Arlaina looks back at her choice despite the pressure she felt to abort, she has no regrets. “When you’re with someone who says, ‘I don’t want this child,’ it can make you feel like you have to go through with an abortion. But I couldn’t do it—not for him—because I knew I’d have to face the aftermath. Now, looking at Amelia, I can’t imagine life without her.”

DEAR READER

We hope this article enlightened and inspired you to stand up for life.

Despite the overturning of Roe v. Wade, abortions are still prevalent in our nation. As a response to the overturning, the media: from the news to entertainment sources to even political figures and celebrities, have pushed abortion as an ongoing agenda, shaping the way this generation thinks and acts. Misinformation is being spread every day, and people are sadly believing the lies.

Our articles and stories aim to tell one thing: the truth.

We know that it is both a blessing and a challenge to understand the reality of abortion, because knowledge incites belief, and belief incites action. But we’re in this together. We believe that we can make abortion unthinkable.

With your support, we look forward to a future where young women are empowered to fight for their own rights: a right to bring life into the world, to be fearless leaders, to be examples of hope, strength, and undeterred resilience. We look forward to a future where life can happen.
